Additional Restrictions Grant available for businesses required to close during second lockdown who do not pay business rates

Applications have opened for the Additional Restrictions Grant. This grant is available for businesses who were required to close during the second lock down but were not eligible for the Local Restriction Grant as they do not pay business rates. Details of the grant and how to apply can be found below.

What is the Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG)?

This is a one-off cash-limited fund provided by the Government to Richmondshire District Council to support businesses affected by Covid-19 restrictions. It is expected by the Government to cover a period up to 31 March 2022.

ARG is a local authority run scheme to support businesses that have been severely impacted by the recent national restrictions imposed to control the spread of Covid-19. This grant will help those that were not legally required to close during the 27 day national lock down which started on 5 November 2020. The scheme will provide support for micro-businesses with fixed costs or support for businesses that are crucial for the local economies.

ARG grant payments awarded

Businesses will receive different amounts depending on their circumstances.

Non-business rate payers

Businesses which are not liable for business rates, but incur fixed commercial premises costs may receive the following amounts:

  • grants to be £1,334 per 27-day qualifying restriction period in the case of businesses with an annual turnover of not more than £632,000

  • grants to be £2,000 per 27-day qualifying restriction period in the case of businesses with an annual turnover of not more than £10.2 m

  • grants to be £3,000 per 27-day qualifying restriction period in the case of businesses with an annual turnover of over £10.2 m

These amounts apply if you do not receive any form of business rates demand, for example you operate from a shared workspace.

This may apply to anyone who pays for space, even when they are not able to trade. Please note that a market stall or pitch is not classed as fixed premises.

Market traders who regularly trade within Richmondshire may receive the following amounts:

  • grants to be £700 per 27-day qualifying restriction period
